VMA 2020, ecco i vincitori. Spoiler: è stato l’anno di Lady Gaga

Con cinque premi e una super esibizione con Ariana Grande, l’artista di ‘Chromatica’ ha dominato l’edizione “socialmente distanziata” dei premi di MTV. La statuetta come Best Rock è andata ai Coldplay di 'Orphans'

Con cinque premi e una super esibizione, Lady Gaga è stata la dominatrice degli MTV Video Music Awards 2020 che si sono tenuti domenica 30 agosto a New York. Anche se il duetto con Ariana Grande Rain on Me non ha vinto il premio per il video dell’anno, che è stato portato a casa da Blinding Lights di The Weeknd, Gaga è stata premiata come migliore artista. Sono suoi anche la canzone dell’anno, la miglior collaborazione e la Best Cinematography, tutti premi ricevuti per Rain on Me, nonché il primo Tricon Award, che ha sostituito il Vanguard Award, una sorta di premio alla carriera introdotto da Bella Hadid.

Lo show è stato presentato da Keke Palmer. Gaga ha presentato un medley di nove minuti tratto da Chromatica comprendente anche Rain on Me con Ariana Grande, entrambe con mascherina. Grande ha avuto quattro premi (contando anche quelli per Rain on Me), i BTS tre, The Weeknd due e Taylor Swift uno, per la regia di The Man. La migliore nuova artista è Doja Cat. Il premio Best Rock è andato ai Coldplay di Orphans.

Vista la edizione “socialmente distanziata”, sono stati premiati anche il migliore video da casa (Stuck with U di Ariana Grande e Justin Bieber) e la migliore performance in quarantena (MTV Unplugged at Home dei CNCO).

Al posto di cavalcare una palla da demolizione, Miley Cyrus si è seduta su una palla da discoteca per la prima esibizione in assoluto di Midnight Sky. È stata una prima anche quella dei BTS, finalmente invitati ai premi maggiori di MTV. Il gruppo K-pop si è esibito dalla Corea del Sud di fronte a un chroma key.
