Saranno consegnati questa sera i 42esimi Video Music Awards (VMA) di MTV, i premi assegnati ai migliori video musicali usciti nell’anno precedente. Diviso in un totale di 25 categorie (esclusi i premi speciali già annunciati), l’evento si svolgerà questa sera alla UBS Arena di Elmont, New York, e vedrà salire sul palco, come di rito, tanti ospiti. La conduzione sarà affidata al pioniere dell’hip hop LL Cool J. Sarà la sua prima volta nel ruolo.
A condurre il preshow saranno Nessa e Kevan Kenney, con la speciale partecipazione del gruppo delle Katseye. Parteciperanno invece in qualità di presentatori Ashlee Simpson Ross, Brittany Snow, Ciara, EJAE e REI AMI (dalla serie Netflix K-Pop Demon Hunters), Audrey Nuna, Ice Spice, Jessica Simpson, Latto, Livvy Dunne, Malin Ackerman, Meg Stalter, Nikki Glaser e Paris Hilton.
L’esibizione più attesa è quella di Lady Gaga, che arriva alla serata da artista con più nomination (12 in totale). Tra le performance di questa edizione, anche quelle di Conan Gray, Yungblud (che insieme a Steven Tyler, Joe Perry e Nuno Bettencourt renderà omaggio a Ozzy Osbourne), Busta Rhymes (che sarà premiato con il primo Rock The Bells Visionary Award), Doja Cat, Jelly Roll, Post Malone, Tate McRae, Mariah Carey (vincitrice del Michael Jackson Vanguard Award), DJ Snake, J Balvin, Ricky Martin (il quale riceverà il premio Latin Icon), Sabrina Carpenter e Alex Warren.
Oltre a Gaga, i favoriti sono Bruno Mars (11 candidature), Kendrick Lamar (10 nomination), Sabrina Carpenter e Rosé (8 candidature a testa), Ariana Grande e The Weeknd (7 ciascuno), Billie Eilish (6) e Charli XCX (5). Presente anche l’Italia con Damiano David, in lizza in due categorie: MTV Push Performance of the Year e Best Longform Video.
