È tempo di bilanci per i R.E.M., ma anche di nuovi progetti. Abbiamo incontrato Michael Stipe e Mike Mills a Milano nel flagship store di via Manzoni 30 per il lancio della capsule collection creata insieme a Paul Smith, un progetto speciale per celebrare i 25 anni di Automatic for the People. Il disco cult degli anni Novanta, lanciato dal singolo Drive, ha venduto negli anni più di 18 milioni di copie anche grazie a hit come Everybody Hurts e Man on the Moon. Ma la rock band ama – e ha sempre amato – lo stato di outsider che li caratterizza, quello che li ha portati a ottenere i risultati che negli anni hanno accumulato.
«Le immagini, le foto e le grafiche che ruotano attorno alla musica sono sempre stati molto importanti per me. È stato bello tornare a lavorare sulla copertina e presentare la foto di Anton Corbijn. Quello che abbiamo fatto nel 1992 aveva molto a che fare con photoshop che era una tecnologia nuovissima a quel tempo, questa è molto meglio» hanno raccontato i R.E.M. a Marco Villa, giornalista e autore per EPCC al fianco del nostro ex ragazzo copertina, Alessandro Cattelan. «Essere in grado di lavorare con Paul Smith e tutto il suo team e creare la capsule collezione è stato entusiasmante! Le sciarpe, le magliette, i calzini… Tutto cioè che è stato creatoo è stato bellissimo».
