Atlanta e The Handmaid's Tale trionfano nell'edizione più politicizzata di sempre

Gli Emmy Awards 2017 ci consegnano tre vincitori – Atlanta, The Handmaid’s Tale e Saturday Night Live – e un mondo dello spettacolo che si schiera apertamente contro Donald Trump e la sua amministrazione. Le tre ore di cerimonia, infatti, sono state una celebrazione della diversità, dell’uguaglianza e di tutti quelli show che in un modo o nell’altro incarnano questi valori.

Il monologo di apertura di Stephen Colbert – che ha interpretato il suo ruolo di presentatore con la solita delicatezza ed eleganza – ha messo subito le cose in chiaro: il bersaglio era Donald Trump e la sua ossessione per il premio più ambito dal mondo televisivo americano (e che il suo show The Apprentice non ha mai vinto).

Non c’è da sorprendersi, quindi, se Saturday Night Live ha vinto nove Emmy, conquistando il bottino più consistente della serata. E lo stesso si può dire di Atlanta: la serie di Donald Glover conquista due dei premi più ambiti (Miglior Attore in una serie comedy e Miglior Regia) e si conferma come uno dei prodotti più interessanti del panorama televisivo americano.

Al centro della scena, però, sempre la politica: dal cameo di Chance the Rapper – “I love television, is a pleasant distraction” – fino alle parole di Laura Dern – «Sono in tv da quando ho 11 anni e avrò lavorato con al massimo 12 donne» -, praticamente tutte le star degli Emmy hanno usato il loro momento sul palco per schierarsi politicamente.

E i premi hanno confermato questa tendenza: Lena Waithe, autrice di Master of None, è la prima donna di colore a vincere un premio per la sceneggiatura. Il suo discorso riassume alla perfezione il clima della serata: «Le cose che ci rendono diversi», ha detto, «sono i nostri superpoteri. Ogni giorno indossiamo il nostro costume immaginario e cerchiamo di conquistarci un posto nel mondo. Perché il mondo, senza di noi, non sarebbe così bello».
