Madonna ha fatto la storia degli MTV Video Music Awards, dalla celebre e per l’epoca scandalosa esibizione del 1984 con Like a Virgin passando per il bacio con Britney Spears e Christina Aguilera del 2003. Esattamente 23 anni dopo quella performance, Madonna tornerà a esibirsi ai VMAs.
È stato infatti annunciato che la “regina del pop” aprirà la premiazione del 2026, non si sa se con un medley come 23 anni fa. Avverrà domenica 27 settembre a Los Angeles in un’edizione che la vede protagonista con ben 11 candidature tra cui Video of the Year (Confessions II – The Film), Artist of the Year e Song of the Year (Bring Your Love con Sabrina Carpenter). L’ultima volta che Madonna è apparsa ai VMAs, senza esibirsi, è stato nel 2021 col suo celebre «Dicevano che non saremmo durate, ma siamo ancora qua, motherfuckers».
Il cast della serata sarà probabilmente annunciato nel corso della prossima settimana. Si sa che i Nirvana saranno premiati col Video Vanguard Award dedicato a Michael Jackson e istituito per riconoscere i contributi fuori dal comune e il carattere innovativo nella produzione dei videoclip. Ci saranno quindi anche Dave Grohl e Krist Novoselic? Si limiteranno a ritirare il premio o si esibiranno con qualche ospite come hanno fatto in passato?
Madonna ha vinto il Video Vanguard Award nel 1986. Era dal 2015 che non veniva assegnato ad artisti di sesso maschile, all’epoca si trattava di Kanye West. Nel frattempo è stato dato a Rihanna, Pink, Jennifer Lopez, Missy Elliott, Nicki Minaj, Shakira, Katy Perry e Mariah Carey.
